Lakeshore Entertainment and Screen Gems will team for Underworld 3: The Rise of the Lycans with Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy and Rhona Mitra on board to star. Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films in the franchise, will produce.
The prequel will trace the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans.

The Hollywood Reporter announced on October 26th, 2007 that the film will be written by Danny McBride and mark the directorial debut of Patrick Tatopoulos, who designed the creature effects for all three Underworld films. Len Wiseman will produce the film but will not write or direct, nor will Kate Beckinsale reprise her lead role of Selene.[5][6]
